This fall, Skillshare’s encouraging everyone to go back to school, even our own team members! We held a company-wide “Back to School” challenge through the month of September and asked everyone at Skillshare to refresh and refocus their own learning habits by taking new classes and workshops, posting projects, joining group discussions and developing skills outside of their job description. We had the best time sharing our progress with one another, and a few lucky participants won prizes for all of their hard work!
Now that the challenge is over, we asked a few Skillshare team members, like Alan Jou, Product Manager, to share a little bit about themselves and the Skillshare classes they love. Whether you’re looking to recommit to your goals, start a new hobby, or just want to get back into the swing of learning, Alan’s picks will have you starting your back-to-school season right.
Hi, my name is Alan, and I’m a Product Manager at Skillshare. I love working at Skillshare, because I get to help build a product that has real, positive impact on people’s lives all around the world. I also love being a Product Manager, because it allows me to be both creative and logical, depending on the day (thank goodness there’s a job for people who like design and math!). I could go on forever about how much I love my job, but that wouldn’t make a great blog post. Instead, I’ll cut to the chase. Here are some of my favorite Skillshare classes!
Matt Bellassai’s class, Creating for the Viral Internet, is a perfect example of why Skillshare is unlike any other online learning platform. First, you get to learn directly from a true influencer/knowledge expert in the field. Secondly, the class is hilarious, and makes you realize that learning can indeed be fun (at least it is on Skillshare). Although I don’t work in Marketing, being a Product Manager requires me to be in tune with people’s emotions as well as current trends. After taking this class, I was able to take Matt’s concepts and apply them towards what I do, which was a blast.
Drawing is a personal hobby that helps me unwind. I took art classes as a kid, but let my passion go dormant until the creative community on Skillshare sort of woke it up again. Skillshare also inspired me to take my art one step further and learn how to draw digitally. Fast forward and I’m now addicted to my iPad and Procreate app. This class by Jarom Vogel was super helpful in helping me get started–he goes through so many nifty tips that I still revisit over and over when I’m working on projects.
Lastly, this Marketing Analytics class is one that’s close to my heart. Joel Witten is a great friend of mine with an equally great analytical mind. I suggested the idea of teaching to him and helped him craft his class outline and materials. Helping him with his class helped me better understand the process behind teaching on Skillshare, and reminded me that Skillshare is changing the game by empowering anyone to teach others what they know best.
