How to Make 3 Simple Shibori Patterns

Materials Needed

  • Fabric
  • Indigo dye in container 
  • Water in container
  • Clothespins 
  • Plastic pipe 
  • Twine
  • Cardboard
  • Clips

Pattern #1: 
1. Fold your fabric accordion style
2. Pin two clothespins at a time, alternating on each side
3. Soak in water and dip in indigo dye
4. Let the fabric sit for 10 minutes
5. Take off the clothespins, unfold, and dry

Pattern #2: 
1. Diagonally roll fabric on a pipe
2. Wrap twine around fabric
3. Bunch down as you go
4. Soak in water and dip in dye
5. Take off the twine, unfold, and dry

Pattern #3: 
1. Fold the fabric in half and fold back in quarters
2. Fold triangles in accordion style
3. Sandwich the fabric between two triangle-shaped cardboard pieces flipped on the other side
4. Clip the cardboard pieces together
5. Soak in water and dip in dye
6. Take off the cardboard, unfold, and dry
